Bravo! Your grasp of the historical is astounding! -- Sarcastically
Popes are part of the Priesthood. The Priesthood models itself after Christ. Christ was celibate and never married. Thus they do not as a practice.
Secondly, the bible says that a married man has his attention divided. It is better not to marry.
Third, without a family, it is easier to do missionary work and cheaper to house and feed Priests.. therefore there are also some practical reasons for celibacy.
Lastly, it is merely a practice of the church, not a doctrine of the faith.. Popes have broken it in the past. There are some married Priests in the Catholic church. SO, it is merely a practice.. a rule that can be broken or changed later on down the road.
Rcently in fact.. some traditional Anglicans petitioned Pope Benedict to rejoin the Catholic faith after nearly 400 years os schism. Pope Benedict accepted their requests which included a few married Anglican priests. The Priests were obviously allowed to enter into full communion with the church while still remaining married. Thus, showing that exceptions to the rule can be made.
If the practice of celibacy was a doctrine.. then NO exception could be made as it would be biblical and dogmatically taught by the apostles.

stable question. The RCC is plenty removed from being a Biblical "Church". The RCC is in line with guy made doctrines and rituals and has defiled the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ Himself is the "Head" of the authentic Church. He continuously has been and continuously may be the only authentic Head of the Church. The "Rock" upon which the authentic Church is equipped is Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the residing God, it incredibly is no longer equipped on Peter. examine Matthew financial ruin sixteen in its entirety. no remember how often the RCC claims that Peter replaced into the 1st Pope or that the RCC is the "authentic Church" it remains a lie. Even interior the church homes that existed interior the 1st century A.D. there replaced into departure from the classes of Christ and the Apostles. that's the reason most of the epistles incorporate corrective coaching however the RCC has chosen to brush aside those teachings. that's the reason idolitry, paganism, and Judaism are rampant in RCCism. examine the epistle of Galations, it includes volumes of corrective coaching.
Catholic and Lovin' It
I don't remember a Catholic ever denying that Peter was married. He also gave up everything to follow Christ, just as all clergy members are called to do today.
God Bless!

Huh? From what I understand, dozens of popes have been married. There is no Catholic doctrine that a pope must be unmarried.

It's because Peter was indeed married. This historical fact is no secret.
