I have had my pigeon a few years now. She usually only lays two eggs but not this time. She is in the same cage as a laying hen chicken who is her best friend. They take turns sitting on eachothers eggs. But my pigeon is now still laying eggs. I take them out everyday along with the chicken eggs and the next day more. Is it healthy and safe for her to keep laying eggs like a chicken? I try to feed the pigeon bird seed and the chicken chicken food but they sometimes eat eachothers. Any suggestions? advice? Is it safe?

that's nice story..yes it could be safe, but pigeon must eat his own because of ingredients end necessary elements,if chick food is not too much proteic it's ok
I wouldn't say it's safe. Most birds should only breed 3-4 times a year. I'm not sure about Pigeons but that's what I read for other birds. When birds constantly breed, it makes them lose energy and vitamins. Don't breed your Pigeon hen so often. It's not safe.
No this is not safe for her as she will become calcium defecient which can lead to serious illness and even death. Leave her eggs in with her until she tires of them then take them out. When you take them to soon she needs to replace them. They will sit on them for 3 weeks at a time which stops the excess laying. Need to feed her calcium supplement which is found in grit and crushed egg shell. She should eat her own food and not the chickens as they both have specific needs for nourishment.
Yes its safe. a bird never stops laying eggs. the chicken food, depending on whats in it, will affect how many eggs the pigeon will lay. pigeons eat a lot of random things so i wouldn't worry. you can separate them for a little while to see what happens, or you can just let it do whatever. my grandma had a chicken who thought it was a duck, and it layed outrageously large eggs, seperated the chicken and duck, and the eggs got smaller, put them back etc., lived as long as a duck, point being nature can confuse itself but it never hurts.
Jack russel's are working dogs, bred for catching small animals. So unfortunately, your brother was an idiot to bring pigeons into the home. Best I can figure, is keep the pigeons out of the dogs way, as I don't see training the dog as an option.
