Gay men; why do so many have the lisping speech? Is it a practiced affectation or natural?

..actually I have had two male friends who were gay that spoke with that "lisping" tone, for lack of knowing how to describe it (sadly, both passed away quite some time ago). As well, I have met other gay men that have the same "tone", though of course, not all do.

add: so all of you are saying, then, that those that do use the "exaggerated" lisping and lilt have practiced the affectation?

That old stereotype is very uncommon among gays.

The only guy I ever met who lisped claimed to be straight.

I know lots of gay men and have never heard a lisp. It's a demeaning and inaccurate stereotype just like the limp wrist. Not true and only exists in old Hollywood movies written by straight writers.

Stereotype and I know straight guys that have the "Gay" Lisp you speak of.

I do not actually know of one gay man with that kind of voice.
