Sermon?: "Sin is Man's Declaration of Independence" ?

Unfortunately today being Monday I was unable to stop into the Presbyterian Church that posted the above sermon title to ask about its meaning.

Anyone have a clue what "Sin is Man's Declaration of Independence" means?

Comments? Plz & Thx

If you really want to know I bet you could call the parsonage and ask, but then you'd have to be ready for a lecture or discussion depending on how much input you have into the conversation.
Since humans are basically sinners we are therefore independent which leads us to be able to choose to believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the Christian Trinity.

I would think it means that when man sins he is declaring his Independence of God's commandments through disbelief, non belief, or lack of faith.

Think Outside the Box has already hit the nail on the head.

It means, more or less, that sin is the two finger salute which humanity gives to its Creator, having decided that it has no wish to be governed by him.

It's a furthering of the Christian belief that independence, freedom, self-determination, rebellion and pride are attributes of Satan. They think that if we break their rules we are breaking away from God and walking alone. I prefer freedom and risk to blind servitude, personally.
