well i love coffee and i try to make it at home and take it to work so i don't use the evil convenience store cups, but every once and awhile i do stop and get a coffee. i always feel bad because i know they are not environmentaly friendly, i take the cup home and re use it as many times as i can, but i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for what i could use the cups for when i do get them. thanks so much!!

Besides using them as flower pots, the major re-uses come from food-related solutions.
Use as your coffee cup when you do make it at home and take it to work. It provides you with the convenience of throwaway, just in case you need dispose of it to free up your hands (for shopping or entry to stores that prohibit food).
Once cleaned and dried and used with lids, they make great foodstuffs containers. If you store your lunch in them, the insulation should help the contents stay cool until you get to the office fridge. The regularity of the size allows you to keep some sort of portion control, especially if you prepare pre-mixes in them.
They are great oatmeal/hot food bowls too, depending on their size. The insulation keeps your hands from burning.
If you want to do some odd stuff, you can use them as supports for decoratve shelves. By nesting four stacks, you get pretty strong posts to lay a shelf on.
Starbucks and other stores sell a metal cup where you can fill in your coffee, it comes with a carbine, can be closed and can be linked to a purse.
I have a friend who uses it and she has start a new trend with her friends .......
But here is another idea: ask for "fair trade coffee" when you buy coffee, one requirement to be fair trade certified is to have a defined environmental policy and the companies get audited by FLO Cert if they comply. The amount of this coffee has increased from 0.5 % to around 10 % in the last 10 years.
i guess you can use a ceramic coffee cup, it looks just like a disposable coffee cup but it's completely reusable! i got mine a couple of days ago and i love using it! you can take it to where you get your coffee and ask them to put your coffee in there! you can have it in your car at all times in case you get out in a hurry and want to stop for coffee. i got mine at walgreens for about $7. on my source i put one from amazon.com, for some reason i couldn't find the one i got on walgreens.com... but it's the same idea!
You could avoid buying coffee from places that use styrofoam cups. Having your own mug is probably the best way to go. I guess you could use them as seed starters for your garden?
