i believe that ya the best is jordan, but 2nd belongs to either magic, bird, or wilt, or russell. this is how i am going to break it down.
magic johnson: career stats- 19.5 points 7.2 reb 11.2 assists awards: 5x champion 3x mvp 12x all star
larry bird: career stats- 24.3 points 10 reb 6.3 assists awards: 3x champion 3x mvp 12x all star
wilt chamberlain: career stats- 30.1 points 22.9 reb 4.4 assists awards: 2x champion 4x mvp 100 points in 1 game
bill russell: career stats-15.1 points 22.5 reb 4.3 assists awards: 11x champion 5x mvp 12x all star best defensive player ever
ok so after this i've narrowed it down to two players magic johnson and wilt chamberlain. magic earns a spot in top 3 because of 5 rings and 3 mvps which is awesome also 11 assists is a whole lot. wilt only has 2 rings and 4 mvps but he scored more per game on average than anyone except jordan whom hes tied with.
so now here is a deep analysis on each.
magic: RECORDS: Holds career record for highest assists-per-game average—11.2. ... Shares career record for most consecutive seasons leading league in steals—2. HONORS: NBA Most Valuable Player (1986-87, 1988-89, 1989-90). ... IBM Award, for all-around contributions to team’s success (1983-84). ... All-NBA First Team (1982-83, 1983-84, 1984-85, 1985-86, 1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89, 1989-90, 1990-91). ... All-NBA Second Team (1981-82). ... NBA All-Rookie Team (1979-80). ... J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award (1991-92). NOTES: Led NBA with 3.43 steals per game (1980-81) and 2.67 steals per game (1981-82).
wilt:
Honors: Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1978); NBA champion (1967, '72); NBA Finals MVP (1972); NBA MVP (1960, '66, '67, '68); All-NBA First Team (1960, '61, '62, '64, '66, '67, '68); Second Team ('63, '65, '72); All-Defensive First Team (1972, '73); Rookie of Year (1960); One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996).
my final choice is Earvin magic johnson because nobody was a point guard as good as him, simply no one. plus the only reason wilt score that much was because there was no 3 second violation back then so he would use his height advantage to score from close every time. on his career magic averaged close to a triple double!
This is a funny question. Best player in NBA history is such debatable subject; thus, until at least over 90% of NBA fans (including sports writers announcers, etc) agree upon and chose the one-and-only best player in NBA history, all the great players ever played the game would be only 2nd, humbly and politely.
