Do you think it's possible to develop 5 cavities in 9 months?

I just moved and I went to a new dentist today and she said I have 5 cavities that need to be filled. In 40 years I had a total of 5 cavities now all of a sudden I have 5 new cavities. My husband hasn't had a cavity in over 25 years and she told him that he has 4. All of our other dentists have said that we have great teeth. We both saw our old dentist about 9 months ago and he never mentioned a word to either of us that we would be needing fillings in the future. So, do you think it's possible to develop 5 cavities in 9 months? Thanks.

My dental habits have gotten better, not worse. I just think it's odd that both my husband and I have more cavities in the last 9 months than either of us has had in entire lives. I think I'm going to get a second opinion.

As it turns out there weren't cavities. 6 months later we went to a different dentist that was recommended to us and neither of us had any cavities. So be careful what dentist you see. The first one we saw had to pay for the tvs mounted to her ceiling.

It is very possible to get 5 cavities given the circumstances. Odd, yes, because of your amazing health in teeth, but it is possible, and unfortunately, that is what happened in your case.
Get those teeth filled soon, so they don't become bigger.

Good luck.

This very primary, it takes place invariably. out of your description, those cavities look seen purely on bitewing x-rays. those are the form of cavities that ensue in between tooth (interproximal cavities) and can purely be seen by one among those x-rays spoke of as “Bitewings”. So in the experience that your son hasn’t had those varieties of x-rays interior the previous 3 hundred and sixty 5 days or so, then that's somewhat in all probability that the time-honored dental examination might coach no cavities, however the x-rays will. Ask the dentist to point out those cavities for you on your son’s x-rays. they might look like a sprint dark shadow, in general triangular in shape. the reason why your son is getting those cavities in between his tooth has no longer something to do with brushing; that's his weight loss plan or snacking trend. If he has a tendency to drink juice or milk every time he's thirsty in between food, then that's sufficient to get this form of cavities, the 2nd contributing element is loss of flossing (no longer brushing). attempt to assume good faith in those healthcare experts, once you're nonetheless uncertain ask for a duplicate of the x-rays and seek for a 2nd opinion from a Board qualified pediatric dentist, good success!

Its possible. Maybe your previous dentist didnt catch the cavities or simply didnt do that good of a job. Mine found out I was grinding my teeth down my first visit where my previous didnt even notice in 10 years of me going to him.

of course it is possible. you have mabey been negleting your teeth because you were confident from your good dental history. when i went to the dentist at the age of 8 my teeth were extra great and he said they were the model teeth so not to come back for a year. i didnt return for 3 and a half years and then had pereidontal gum disease and 6 cavites at the least. i still havent had the guts to go again! so go get it sorted or get a 3rd opion.
