Old Hamster Gone Blind, How can I help him?

I have a very old hamster, He is around 2years 6months and I love him very much, This morning I woke up, Ready to give him some fresh water and food and found that his eyes had clouded over and he was stumbling slightly. I called up my vet who said that this often happens with older hamster and unless it looked infected or he began to look in pain, like not eating, drinking and hunching up then there wasn't much use in bringing him in but now I'm wondering is there anything I can do to make his life easier now that he hasn't got his sight?
Im really scared for him :(

Im so sorry! Its Cataracts. Cataracts ( cat - a - ract - s) A disease of the eye which causes the lens of the eye or its capsule to become opaque. It can vary in degree, resulting in partially or severely decreased vision, and may lead to permanent blindness. Cataracts can mean anything from mild cloudiness of the lens to complete opacification.An old hamster with cataracts developing. This may be seen in older hamsters. As the hamster ages lens opacities can normally occur to some degree. Cataracts are generally part of the ageing process. There is no treatment available for cataracts in hamsters. A partial or total loss of vision is not a great handicap to them. A hamster with Diabetes is at increased risk of developing cataracts, a condition associated with this eye disorder.
