at the start, you should be certain from the two the hearth branch or the community authority (making plans branch) whether you would be allowed to have an open hearth (flames) on your back backyard. maximum community governments won't permit you do this once you're too on the element to any development. 15 ft from the domicile isn't some distance sufficient, even even though it relies upon on your community government. additionally, once you are going to apply bricks, they must be hearth bricks, no longer the type used for development a house. the domicile bricks will disintegrate with the aid of the years via warmth. do no longer make a fireplace pit until eventually you get the needed permission.

kind of a vague question to get a good answer. If you mean a bare back yard, you would need to clear the area and then pour gravel. On top of that, pour a good layer of sand (about 4"). Then I'd lay the brick according to what pattern you prefer. Once laid out, sweep sand into the cracks which should stablize the brick.

good luck
