2002 Pontiac Grand Am Temperature Guage???/?

Question

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4 liter. The temperature guage reads around 215 degrees farenheit before the cooling fans come on. To visualize, this is about a quarter way past the half mark on the temperature guage. each notch pass the half mark represents 5 degrees.

From what I read, the cooling fans are supposed to activate at about 205 degress farenheit

I would like to know is this normal and has other Grand Am V6 owners from 1999 - 2002 ever experience this situation??? and if so, how did you remedy it.

Fan relay may be faulty, or the temperature sending unit, because, yes it does happen.

Being summer, this will happen no matter what. As the car gets older, so do the parts. It's just what happens. It won't hurt your car in any way. Your thermostat is fine and what your car is doing and how it's performing is more than normal. Especially on a hot day after driving your car for a while, let me guess. You're on the highway or zipping around for a while and then you come to a stop and your meter goes up. Unless it goes over the 3/4 mark, don't worry or pay for something stupid. If you want to "correct" this problem, then purchase a cold air intake with a good k&n filter on it and the temp will normally read below the 200Âº line. Otherwise, stop worrying.
