Should Christo be allowed to cover a river in Colorado with cloth?

The "artist" Christo wants to cover miles of Colorado's Arkansas River with bright cloth in the name of art. I am against the project, which will take years to complete, will affect ecosystems, and, in my opinion, will be ugly as heII.

Are you for or against it? How do you think it will affect animals in and around the river?

By the way, if you are against it, you can join the Facebook page "Save the Arkansas River from Christo's "Art" "

There are still concrete blocks and I-beams left over from his last "work of art" in Rifle, CO. The BLM doesn't even allow camping by the river, but they will allow trucks, cranes, heavy equipment, drills, and bulldozers in there to wreak havoc? They will make roads and destroy vegetation and habitat. Do you think that they can ever return it to normal? If it was in your back yard, you might think differently.

If a developer wanted to bury a stream, he would not be permitted to do so. Let's cover Christo in cloth for a couple of years and see whether he wants to continue covering living systems or go back to inanimate objects.

Never heard of Christo nor do I know exactly what he has in mind, but if this cloth blocks out some or all the the sun that would normally reach the river then yes this would have a detrimental effect on all of the life in the river. No sunshine, no plants, no plants no food or oxygen no food or oxygen no animals.

Ok looked the guy up Fabric is only going to be up for two weeks and they are going through all the proper channels for their EIS and what not. Probably not a real environmental threat. Having said that I still think it's really stupid. I don't think a big canopy is going to make the Arkansas river better or cooler or more interesting or neater or more awe inspiring. This seems kinda like trying to 'improve' the Sistine Chapel by letting a toddler finger paint all over it.

Please explain the effect it will have on the ecosystem. Why would it hurt? The animals are used to adapting to sudden changes in the atmosphere. And since we are a part of the ecosystem, what is the difference?

Do understand that we ARE the ecosystem. We are a part of nature. Our buildings are our way of adapting.

Why not? The Arkansas is in the USA, not North Korea.

Find something else to freak out about.
