What kind of paint to repair an old taxidermied (mounted) bass from 1960?
I recently inherited a largemouth bass that was professionally mounted in 1960. Fins and body is fine but there are patches where the paint fell off. I am a decent enough artist that I could mix colors to match the background and want to repair this myself, but am not sure what kind of paint taxidermists used back then. Searching Google gives me mostly either references to professional services or modern techniques which might be different and I want it to blend with the surrounding paint.
Does anyone know how this was done? I was thinking acrylic or oil, but perhaps something else coated with epoxy or shellac.
It's not a very big fish - about 5 lbs. Value is purely sentimental since my grandfather caught it on his property.
