School wont let me drop out????

Im 16 and I tried with parents consent to drop out of high school so I could take it online but their saying that it's not allowed. I don't see why it wouldn't be though I thought that you had to be 16 with parents consent to drop out. In New York. How are people home schooled then online?

In my school you can only drop out if your living on your own. I don't understand why either....
