I love to read, but don't have very much free time right now. I bought Atlas Shrugged and 3 other books yesterday just wandering if I should invest my time on this now or wait until it's not such a commodity. So is it an interesting read regardless of your political views? and I only want opinions from those who have actually read it, save me your lectures about Fox News blah, blah, blah.

I thought it was a very good read. It'll change the way you think about government and society. My experience is that the people who don't care for it are ones who think it the governments duty to support all of us. If you believe in bettering yourself and providing for yourself you will like the book. There are so many things in the book that are happening today it's pretty amazing.
Rand saw the Bolshevik revolution in Russia as a child so she understands that socialist promise a good deal, but never deliver, and how bad things get.
Do yourself a favor and read it. You'll see the world differently, and especially political promises.

Ann Rand is a great Author. You just have to commit to reading and it gets better and better. You might starve to death before finishing. I couldn't put many of her works down. Amazing too, because I usually get bored. Political fiction is her specialty.

It's an excellent book, one of my all time favorites. It does take a time commitment. The first part moves a little slow, but once it gets going it's great.

To me Ayn Rand's writing is very contrived and all of it is attempting to push her political viewpoint. Whether you like it depends on some personal values. I think a lot of people like it because it champions self reliance and personal committment to accomplishment without compromise, and she makes a good story of that. On the other hand, Rand thought that selfishness is the greatest virtue (even wrote an essay with that title), and she loved the people with power and status and despised the masses of people at the bottom of the social ladder, and considered them worthless parasites.
Her characters seem like stick figures created to illustrate her philosophy.

I read it long time ago but thought it was science fiction, I read again not to long ago thinking I must have missed something because everyone talks a about it, but it still seemed like science fiction to me. However it is a fun book to read with great sex scenes so you will probably enjoy reading it, I know I did both times.
