I have a 4 mo. old Beagle mix, just under 10 lbs. The generic feeding chart on the puppy food says 2-3 1/2 cups per day. I know beagles are prone to weight gain pretty easily. I'm currently doing 2 1/2 per day, 1 1/4 cup morning and the same afternoon. Anybody with experience who can tell me if i'm aboout right?

my dog's only 12 lbs full grown and he only eats 1.5 cups a day. ask your vet what they recommend or ask a beagle breeder. you may only have to feed him once a day, that's what I always did for my dog. and make sure he doesn't eat at the same time you eat- he should only eat after you so he learns that you're boss.
Mixed breed dogs do not eat a different amount then pure bred dogs do.Read the chart on the bag of puppy food and it will tell you how much to feed him/her. A 10 pound dog does not net to be fed 2 1/2 cups of food a day, he is a puppy. My 60 pound Standard Poodles only get 3 cups. You will make him very fat.
if its the only dog you have and there is no competition for food ( the dog doesnt have to guard it /eat it all or something else will get it) then let it eat as much as it wants. most dogs who are raised alone without other dogs around will only eat what they need. of course, if you notice your puppy chowing down like a maniac all the time this isnt a good solution. if you have other dogs about or your puppy seems to overeat then id stick with what youre doing now. it sounds about perfect.
