Probably the stress of being moved and meeting new birds, they have probably never seen a cockerel before and will need time to adjust.
They don't need chick crumb if they are laying birds. Ex battery hens by definition are older birds and laying does decline. Are they moulting? Most stop laying when they moult?
I had 5 ex battery hens and 4 died quite quickly, one is still alive 5 years later, she must be 7 or 8 now.
I would never feed any chicken products [eggs, shells] to a chicken. Laying chickens need a good feed such as layer pellets and oyster shell. They like chicken scratch feed and wild bird seed mix, fruit and veggie scraps, to be outdoors to scratch about, eat grass, bugs, worms, hop-grassers and etc. If confined bring the above to them especially the grass. You have disturbed them, housed them differently and changed their diet. They may also started to moult.
