baby refuses formula but will take bottle of expressed breastmilk?
hi there, my 20 week old daughter will take a bottle of breastmilk no problem but refuses formula. how can i get her to take some formula? i am not looking to stop feeding i am just finding that with breastfeeding all day and pumping i am finding that the odd formula feed here and there would take the pressure off me. any tips? we have tried mixing it with her milk which worked once or twice but then she threw up. we have tried Aptamil, SMA, Goats Milk, and Hipp Organic which she hates the most and is the one I had hoped to give as Aptamil and SMA make her sick! HELP!

I'm not forcing her to take it if she hates it I give up but she will need to go on to something other than breastmilk to supplement as she is so hungry and is too young to be weaned. Also once she is weaned I would prefer to stop breastfeeding. I am happy to try any brand of formula but no idea how to get her to take it. as soon as she knows its not from me, she wont have it.

try 1/2 an ounce of formula mixed in the breast milk. It will be such a small amount that she won't even notice. Then increase slowly till she can't tell the difference. My son would throw up with formula too, finally I used soy milk formula and that did the trick. Good Luck
Sounds like she realizes the difference. It could be this particular formula upsets her stomach like the others you've tried. I'd talk to her doctor,he may be able to recommend something else. Especially if what you're giving her now causes her to get sick. I wouldn't want to drink something that I knew would make me feel bad either.
Just try and be patient with her. I'm sure she's having a hard time with this just like you are too.
my daughter did the same thing, I just eventually stopped trying and have been breastfeeding for 11 months now. It got stressful at times but I am happy I stuck with it, now I am hoping she goes to cows milk farly easy next month.
Your baby is the ONLY pump you need.....stop pumping A.S.A.P. because this is causing too much pressure for you and messing with your milk supply. This is what I did, with my first born (at 10-days of age); his great hones 'old fashioned' doctor instructed me to mix a small amount of baby rice cereal with cows milk, feed to him with a rubber coated baby spoon and then nurse him...I also did this with the next two children but around 3-4 months of age........I guess a woman's milk quality improves with each pregnancy. By the time, all 3 of my children, reached 12-months of age - they were weaned and only drank liquids from normal cups and glasses.
I don't know. I was never able to get either of my children to drink formula. I mean have you tasted that stuff? It might be a fine substitute nutritionally for breast milk, but it tastes terrible.
If it is that important for you to have her drink formula then I suggest calling her doctor. I am sure they have had this problem many times and can give you good advice.
-- hey I am not judging you if that what you think. I was just telling you that it doesn't taste nearly as good as your breast milk. So having her switch to formula might be very tough if not impossible. As I was never able to with my first child.
