There are a few _thousand_ stars visible every night from any dark sky site. If you are seeing a particularly bright object tonight, it is not a star but the planet Jupiter. If you have binoculars or a small telescope, take a look at it to see its moons.

Actually, knowing that you are in Connecticut doesn't help at all since you failed to mention what time you saw the star and what direction you where looking. What are the odds of me correctly guessing the star you are looking at out of the few thousand possible choices with no information?

They are all out! Did you think they had beds to sleep in?
