if you bought this new, they always come with a troubleshoot manual. what you have to do to find the manual is, the part that sticks above the machine with all the buttons on it, there are screws in the back of this, take those screws out so you can open the back of this piece, usually the manual is stuck in there. they put it in there so people dont lose it before its needed. it should guide you through everything you need.

Probably just the micro-switch in the lid. They go out frequently. That's the switch that if you leave the lid open will stop the machine from spinning or agitating. A friend of mine once bought a very nice used machine because the user didn't know that all she had to do was close the lid, she had grown up using a front loader.

I'm assuming you realize to close the lid. Sometimes the switch just doesn't make good connection because the gizmo that pushes it has worn or move. Set it on low water, let it fill, try really slamming the lid down a couple of time. If the machine works it is that problem. But usually it is a mirco-switch itself that has to be replaced...those things are always going out.

I don't have any children in the house. I got so fed up with that switch going out, I bypassed mine. Haven't had a problem with that machine since.

This sounds like a broken belt. Check underneath your washer. There is a belt that is attached to a pulley on the motor. These belts either break, stretch, or freeze up. They drive your agitation, and your spin cycle. Call a qualified Appliance Repair person if you cannot do it yourself. I've replaced many of these myself on different washers.

Great series of books by Doug Emley - I've used them many times to fix washers and dryers. In libraries and Amazon.com

sounds like your drive belt has come off or broke , open the machine at the back and all will be revealed, its a 15 minute job.
