will a hdmi to dvi cable work on a non hd monitor?

i'm just trying to hook up my ps3 to my computer monitor, i don't care if it's not hd but i'm just wondering if the picture will come up at all because it's not really a hd monitor.

i have a hp 2010i monitor

I wouldn't recommend that monitor for use with the PS3. While it will work with the PS3 running in 720p mode, it it NOT capable of 1080p, where the PS3 really shines.

Also, since DVI-to-HDMI strips out the audio carried by HDMI, you will have to figure out some other way of getting sound out of your PS3.

it would, with the aid of fact hdmi can bypass to widely used 480i...i might only propose getting a $2 vga to composite video in (link in my source) and then getting some sort of audio device which will paintings with composite audio, it would be a similar video high quality

a. Why wouldn't you just try it?
b. Yes it should work as long as the cable can connect properly
