What would happen if you were in a police station and discharged your handgun into the ceiling and then immeadiatly dropping your weapon and surrendering? Could you make a point that you wanted to see what the penalty is and will pay for damages without punishment? Would a apology help?

Version 1 : You are buried and they can say you played a really, really STUPID joke. Unless, of course, your father in on the force, and then they might let you life, if you hunt down some minority for them to pay for the ceiling.
Version 2: You spend a LONG time in prison, for attacking a police station with a weapon, in the attempt to overthrow the American government. Hey, if flare launcher can become a sawed-off shotgun and a grenade launcher, they can turn you in to Bin Lidin's son, and a suicide mission.
Of course, this is assuming you are know, they're drunk, and you still don't get 500 or more rounds into you before you complete "I'm..." You might get shot before you get your gun pointed towards the ceiling. You would be arrested and fined severely, probably as well spend your days in jail before you can go to trial, and may be forced to have a psychiatric evaluation to go along with your jail time.
You'd also become a felon and it would be the last time you'd ever hold a gun.
