How could Dallas be favored this weekend?

I'm trying to make my picks for the weekly pool (straight up, no points). And, I know they're playing a mediocre (3-and-4) Jaguars team at best. But, the Cowboys are 1-and-5 with Romo, and now he's out with Jon Kitna as his replacement. And, oddsmakers still have Dallas as around 10 point favorites. I don't get it.

Is there anyone out there who can make a case that Dallas is going to win this game? And, I don't want to hear from Dallas honks or haters. I want to hear from someone who can give me a thoughtful answer one way or the other. I'm currently picking the Jags. But, I could be swayed by a compelling argument in favor of the Cowboys.

Captain - I know the Jags suck. But, so do the Cowbows, especially without Romo. But they're still favored by 10 points. That's the part I don't get. Do you really think the Cowboys can win if the Jags are spotted 10 points?

If you look at the jaguars defense they are allowing 30 points a game and allow the third most yards per game. The Jags QB is coming back this week which should give them a little boost on offense because MJD has done next to nothing through the first seven weeks of ball. Although Kitna is not Tony Romo he still has a strong arm and has moments of excellence. I feel the cowboys game plan will be run run run which they should've been doing all year. if the cowboys can put up a decent amount of rushing yards and cowboys D doesn't lay another egg this week it will be an easy win for the cowboys.

I have them as favorites also in my NFL Outlaw LIne:

Cowboys 30
Jaguars 21

It is not so much that the Cowboys are so much better, and without Romo there is some doubt, Kitna can be erratic, but that the Dallas Defense can keep the Jaguars in check. Look for some early sacks on Garrard.

The Cowboys will score, no question about it, and the Jags simply will not be able to keep the game close. Also the Jags are ranked dead last in pass defense, and the Cowboys have receivers that will catch anything near them Kitna tosses.

It's not like Jon Kitna is some QB that never played the game before, he can get the job done. Plus the Cowboys are gonna keep the ball on the ground, don't forget they have Felix Jones, Marion Barber, and Tashard Chouce against the 25th ranked rush defense in the league. If they decide to stack the box to stop the run, did you forget about Miles Austin, Jason Witten, and Dez Bryant? I don't care how bad you think Kitna will be, with weapons like this against one of the worst teams in the league they can't lose.

Don't just pay attention to the record, the W-L record doesn't tell you everything. It tells you a lot, but not everything.

You're right about Jacksonville being mediocre at best. Dallas, on the other hand, could be a good team when they're playing their best. The problem is they haven't been playing their best, they've been sucking. Overall though, when you look at individual players, Dallas is superior.

Also, I hate Dallas, so I don't usually take their side. But I do think they're a better team than Jacksonville IF they can pull it together, and that's a big IF.
