someone suggested moving the striker around. what is a striker and where is it located. i took this truck to a body shop who said the only way to correct the problem is to have the hinges cut off and replace. is this true?

you might try a small block of wood put it by the bottom hinge and push the door shut but not all the way just try a little force at first.this will make the door rise in the back. i have done this hundreds of times this will bend the lower hinge and raise the rear of the door body man 45 years
you have to move the striker around for a good fit ..and use a jack to push up on the door this will bend it up a little enough for a good alignment ..make sure you put a block of wood so you dont damage the bottom of the door ..if you need to talk to me more about it email me i'll give you my skype name ..
I rather have repaired a lot of this variety hinge the hollow strengthen into egg formed from years of injury. I seek for sleaves to intall interior the hinge brackets that are merely approximately a suitable greater healthful on the hot pin. you opt for them a very tiny bit unfastened. then you certainly drill out the hinge holes to the outer diameter of the bushings. attempt trailer restoration shops for the bushings. many rv's use comparable hinge sttyles it worked for me.
grab the bottom of the door while its completely open and pull up on it as hard as you can that will work i promise you that im a body man and i do light mechanic work here and there like changing engines and transmission work
