My baby passed the hearing test in the hospital, but does not respond to any sound at all. She is 9 weeks old right now. We are going to another audiologist next week, but because of her age they can only test to make sure her eardrums are working correctly. We have banged pots and pans and made other really loud noises, and she does not respond. Otherwise she is very alert and follows us with her eyes, etc.

Thank you all. Her test today was inconclusive as she has fluid in one ear and pressure in the other. She is getting more testing in the hospital on friday.

When my daughter was that age me and my husband worried about her hearing as well. One day we were at a cookout and she was sleeping in her carseat when a man started his motorcycle. Everyone jumped and looked except for my daughter. We really thought something was wrong. We did the same thing you did with banging pans and clapping hands to try to get her to look the way of the sound. She didn't do it. We had her hearing checked again and she passed once again. Her doctor assured us the reason that she didn't respond to sound was b/c she was just too young and couldn't focus yet. He was completely right. My daughter is now six months old and can respond to every noise she hears. She can even respond to her name be called. I'm sure your childs hearing is okay but it doesn't hurt to get things check out just in case. Hope this helped.
The best advice I can give is to trust the medical professionals (unless something rings that mommy alarm that they aren't paying attention or don't care enough, then find a new doctor). While it's important to catch a possible hearing deficiency early, there are limits to what they can test and what they can do. You have to be patient. Keep loving that baby and doing the best for her you can, make sure you follow up with doctors, and before you know it, you will have your answer. If she is deaf, there is a lot that can be done as long as you know early and are willing to put in the effort. Good luck to you. Don't forget to savor these first weeks with your baby despite your worries - it's time you'll never get back.
well get another test done asap and if she is deaf like little hearing loss around 25 to 35% get her a hearing aid but if over that as in profoundly or severer hearing loss the best thing to do is get a cochlear implant to help improve her speech and other thing like hearing improve her life. also get her and you as parents to learn it as well. it also might just be wax in the ears but get her hearing checked top be save. you don't want Your child growing up deaf
9 weeks is really young sometimes babies just don't know hwat to do when they hear noises or don't know to turn their head to find out what made the noise. i have a 3 1/2 month old and it just starting to look towards noises.
edit:: but when he was that old and heard loud noises (like pots and pans) would scare him and he would jump.
