Why does my smoke alarm keep going off whenever I use the oven? Please Help.?

Hello, my name is Emily and this is my first time on Yahoo Answers. I don't know why the smoke alarm keeps going off whenever I use the oven. I used it today only for 10 minutes and it went off. I keep the window open to let the smoke out (which is located to the left of the oven) and I keep one of those trays at the bottom of the oven to catch anything that falls. Concerned that there were pieces burning on it, I cleaned the oven with vinegar and baking soda and replaced the tray and today it still went off. I live in a small basement apartment if that helps.
Any ideas on what I can do to stop it from going off? It's embarrassing having my landlord always come down to see what's wrong when the alarm goes off and also having my food not even finished cooking. Thank you very much.
FYI: I'm visually impaired, so I can't see inside the oven or if anything is coming out of it etc.

I've had a problem with overly-sensitive smoke alarms, and when they're in kitchens it makes them worse. A small apartment has very small air-circulation, a fan in your window backwards is useful, and will draw any smoke out of the kitchen. In winter, this can be a problem.

A test to see if there is something in the oven that is burning or if it is the food you put in...

Turn your oven on, do not put anything in it, if the alarm goes off, get someone to look that thing over for ya, if it doesn't go off, you have a sensitive alarm, the fan or a new alarm is the best shot

If it's enough smoke to set off the fire alarm, you should be able to smell it just fine, so your visual impairment shouldn't be an issue. I would say you need to get it cleaned better, maybe get someone who can see better to come out and do it for you if it keeps going off. How old is your fire alarm? Have you had issues with it before? You could always try replacing the batteries on it. However, I really doubt that's the case...it's too big of a coincidence that it goes off when you use your oven. So like I said, try and get your oven cleaned better, maybe by someone else.

Also, try and put the fire alarm near the kitchen, but maybe not IN the kitchen. Also, if you have a vent on a stove above the oven, you might try turning that on.

Hi. I have thought a smoke alarm in any rooms have same problems.
I have never considered the dirt in the oven caused the alarm. When I visited my friend's room, the alarm started ringing. What they conducted was covering the smoke alarm by a vinyl bag and I imitated it. I know if they conducted it, the smoke alarm did not mean anything. In our case, no landlord came to see what happened even it rang. I really did not know reason of the existence.
If you are embarrassing it, can you conduct like us? I think you do not need to be embarrassing it and you can say it was no problem and the smoke alarm perceives smokes very well to protect you against fire.

Once I cleaned up our oven and rice cooker by water and a cleanser at different time.
As I heard from my family members, I should not use water to clean for any electronic appliances. In my case, we could use it after dry. If you wash them many times, please be careful about it.

You are asking a question, but I want to ask you it was because of an oven? and why no landlord came to see our rooms?

Right now, we set up a smoke alarm in a kitchen, but have never rung. It means our kitchen is clean?

Alarm companies do not install smoke detectors in kitchen for exactly this reason. The appropriate detector is a heat detector. If you can move the detector away from the kitchen, you should do so - and get a heat detector only for the kitchen.

I would also see about having a monitored alarm system that includes fire protection, if you don't already have one. It's the only safe way to protect yourself. Not only does it alert help when you are not there, but it also summons help if you are home, and overcome by smoke. And, it gives a bigger discount on home insurance. You landlord may want to check it out...

The kitchen is a bad place for a smoke alarm. Cooking and baking often give off enough smoke to set one off. Can you move your smoke alarm to a different place?
