Dirty white sweat shirt.....?

So I have this sweatshirt that my wife said i shouldn't get caz its whit and it will get dirty really fast. I shrugged her off and sure enough its not dirty. I want to bleach it and make it nice and white again BUT it has alot of black artistic work on it and Im not sure if the bleach is going to screw up the sweatshirt when I was it. Im a cook not a laundry mat lol. Any help would be greatly appriciated :)

Don't pour the bleach right on the shirt, start up the washing machine and put about 1/2 c. bleach directly in your container on your machine on directly into the water, let it get half full of water and then put your shirt in.

Also try to put put Borax in with the load when you wash.
