If your current subscription is about to expire, you can purchase either a renewal online through the main NIS screen or you can purchase a retail copy. If you purchase a retail copy make sure that you use the Activation code that comes with the retail package so that it is synchronized properly with your My Norton account.

If you wish to buy an antivirus software from a retail vendor, that is completely possible. I would recommend going to Sam's Club if possible, it's cheaper there.

I would suggest that you give a free antivirus software a try, however. A friend of mine tested several different antiviruses on separate computers, including McAfee, Norton, Avast!, and Microsoft Security Essentials, as well as some others. We found that the free software updated twice as often as the subscription base, and typically used less of your system resources when scanning. My personal favorite is MSE. I'm not saying that these subscription based antiviruses don't do a good job, but the free software does slightly better at the same thing, and doesn't cost you a penny....Show more

I have to agree with Basigiaz... the free ones work just fine, I also use Microsoft security essentials, as long as you have a legitimate copy of windows (meaning its not pirated) then its free to you, its caught multiple threats on my computer and works well. Heres a link, and make sure to uninstall Norton or you cannot download this.
