If I download the free trial for 3Ds max and it ends, will i be able to delete it and just download it again?
I assume if that were the case my progress would be lost or would it just not let me download it again? I would also like to know if its the same thing for Adobe After Effects

No. You cant.
For any software, if you install its trial version, it keep a particular registry file indicating the day it was put and the day it (will) expire. When you uninstall (delete) that program from your computer, that registry file will not be removed. So if you install another one, the registry file will indicate the program that it was run on this computer and expired. Therefore, it will still show you "Trial Period Expired".
However, if you are a sophisticated computer wizard, you can track down the registry file and delete it. "BUT DO NOT TRY IF YOU KNOW YOU CANT!!!" You can delete an important file and will need to format your system.
But if you really need the key, go and search serials.be (it is a link for all sort of software keys).
