Most NWS stations send a weekly test once every week. If you get the check op message you are not receiving a good channel, or aren't receiving it well enough or have the alarm turned off. check for thosee things, then call the local NWS office and ask when they test. Most do on Wednesday between 11 AM and 12. Be by the receiver at that tiem.

Weather Radios Radio Shack

RadioShack weather radios will display "Chk Op" if it goes seven days without receiving a signal (test or otherwise).

When CheckOp or ChkOp appears on the display, it indicates that the weather radio has not received a signal from NWR in a week. You should check the channel to be sure that you are on the correct frequency and/or move the radio to a better location.
