Any worm has a tendency to bore/enter in to a hole to find shelter and food. Our ear wax being organic may attract worms . Regular hygiene to remove the excess wax is not done by the children. So such folk lore is narrated to alert the child.
How ever our ears have defence, there are some hair shoots that are bent outwardly. these do not allow such intruders and long before such thing results the person becomes aware of it and wards it off. It is one in a thousand chance that intruders makes its way through.
Glow worms are common and can be seen clearly when the area has power cut at night. Some fire fly too fly making themselves brilliant and attractive. Biochemical phosphorescence is the scientific reason for their glow.
You may call the with a pet name Photon bullet.

it's name is Dermaptera(actually these are the only ones in this order called dermaptera ... so .. whatever) (or more commonly referred in English as an Earwig). Used in fishing. attracted to light, and in my opinion having these things crawl on you is worse than regular worms or cockroaches.
