Why did my DVD stop playing about 1/3 of the way?

I have a brand-new Toshiba laptop computer with a CD/DVD drive. I've played commercial DVDs of movies on the player with no problem. Last night we tried playing a commercial video from an historic site. It got no further than 1/3 of the way, stopped with an error message about checking the DVD. Any suggestions about the problem? Thanks.

The problem? Probably a defective DVD. The solution? Have it replaced.

wash it in warm soapy water....its a good idea to backup your dvd disks
