DUTIES OF A CPA .. WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Last year I hired a CPA to come to my house ans do two returns.."correctly" I have developed a serious vision problem due to a severe head injury and many years later had this lasik procedure done. ended up having to leave my job... etc...... well the return was done incorrectly as this young man PUT me on the radar of the IRS.. and instead of getting the refund.... I received a bill..
eventually a VERY understanding and quite sensitive IRS lady CORRECTED the return and faxed it to me... as she instructed me to sign it and make a copy.. and send the original copy off.. I received my refund .. shouldn't I be ENTITLED to some consideration for the error..

Did I neglect to mention ... the entire purpose of hiring him to com to my house .. was because the laser stuff has in essence left me 90 percent house bound.. <which explains the delay in even my filing.. as I had figured I wasn't going to make it, the girl from the IRS.. I made a comment as she corrected the return... saying that I SHOULD FILE A GRIEVANCE on her behalf.. FOR doing his job.. and he emailed me and said there would be no consideration for doing the return....

I have the two returns.. and one doesn't match the one he did in error... hence he refused to correct it... and said that in print... in an email, when I requested the consideration... amazing.. it really is a new America... could of received better workmanship from H/R Block AND MUCH MUCH LESS THAN $ 650.00

I did request consideration... to no avail...

Contact the CPA and ask for a refund of fees.

However, the CPA will argue that he could have fixed the return for you.

Yes, you are certainly entitled to consideration for his error. He should refund the fees you paid him and if he declines to do so, you need to take him to small claims court.

If what you stated above is accurate, you'll have no problem obtaining a judgment against him in a small claims court plus you can even ask for a little "extra" for your time and inconvenience since he forced you to go to court instead of doing the "right thing" to begin with.

Most likely, when you inform him of the mistake he will be glad to refund the fee you paid him.
