How often should the oil be changed in a 2004 Isuzu Axiom?

Using 5W30 Valvoline DuraBlend Motor Oil.

I read recently that newer cars don't need the oil changed as often as older models. Is this true?

Todays norm is 5000 miles and sometimes more, but i prefer the 5000 mile limit. Todays oil are far superior than years ago and engine tolerances are quite good today so oil consumption is reduced. Stick to the 5000 limit and you should be good. You can try using a synthetic blend oil if you like too, i use this blend for the winter months for easier starts and lasts longer to get me through til spring.
good luck......

I grew up with the understanding that you should change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles. I think that still should be followed with older vehicles.

These days, however, with the more modern vehicles and better oil formulas, it is more like every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Most vehicle computers are programmed to let you know when it is time (a "Service Engine Soon" or "Change Oil Soon" light will appear), depending on driving habits and conditions. Check your owners manual to see when yours is recommended.

Always follow your owners manual which will have a maintenance schedule in it. The "3000 miles or 3 months" rule of thumb doesn't hurt but doesn't necessarily apply to newer vehicles. Quite a few vehicles are more like 5000 miles between changes. Again, it is very important to adhere to your owners manual. If you do not then you could void your factory warranty.

If you do a lot of stop and go driving change it every 4000 miles. If it's mostly hi-way travel then you can easily go 8000 mile between oil changes.
