Original Grimm's Fairy Tales?

I've heard that the original ending to the Grimm's fairy tales had less happy endings. Where can I find those stories with the original endings?

There are many versions to Grimm's Fairy Tales. The Brothers Grimm didn't write the stories, they collected them. The stories had been around for decades, possibly even hundreds of years. Every town, every country, had different versions.

I think you are searching for a ghost. I have original German versions and they are all happy endings. and I have not heard of any seriously censored versions. do they censor them in the US? Why do they have happy endings? Because they are moralistic tales in the romantic era of literature targeting children (Aesops fabels were for adults!). Their objective is to teach morals to little children. For children to want to remember the morals, they had to be positive endings to be 'memorable'. They teach that positive behaviour has a positive outcome. so the Grimm brothers wrote the happy endings. The original stories that they collected might not have had those, but those were not published by the Grimm brothers.
