Zakk Wylde overrated?

Does anyone else agree with me that this guy is overrated? He's a beast player don't get me wrong, but he seems SO repetitive, always doing the same pentatonic licks and pinch harmonics. I have a theory that playing in Ozzy's band gave his name more hype than he is worth. Thoughts?

Just FYI, I'm not hating; I do agree he is talented and a solid player I just think he's overrated.

Yup. Yet another guitarist that got so caught up with forging his "signature sound" that he got caught up in a gimmick and whatever talent he had has been lost in a sea of formulaic mediocrity (like Kirk Hammett). I've never liked post-Jake E. Lee Ozzy albums or Black Label Society, but Zakk's earlier Ozzy stuff or "Pride & Glory" are proof that Zakk is a talented and versatile guitarist. He had the talent, he just hasn't done jack with it. It's a shame, he has no need or desire to evolve as a guitarist so his comfort zone gets significantly smaller with each passing year, and he'll probably never leave it. All he has to do is act like a drunk jackass redneck biker and he'll be popular for the rest of his life, and the fanbase will keep buying crappy BLS album after BLS album.

Wylde of course has great organic ability and ability, yet his stuff has no sense of originality to it and originality became what Van Halen became and is all approximately. while Wylde gets previous the degree of displaying off hand velocity and improves the middle of his sound he must be fairly sturdy.

I hear less about him then I do about Slash. The two of them are EXCELLENT guitarists. I don't think Wylde is overrated it's just annoying hearing about them all the time.

Actually I don't because I don't think Zakk has ever gotten as hyped as Randy Rhoads did and deservedly so.
