I purchased a 2011 Sonata SE, 7 weeks ago with the 2.4L and 6speed automatic and love it. Especially on the highway as well as in town. It's very smooth shifting and Hyundai has perfected the transmission.
At 80mph on the highway, tach shows just over 2100 rpm and IF you need to get around another car by using the passing gear, hang on, you'll be doing 100mph very quickly. I really have to watch myself and I used to own a 2000 Volvo S80T6 twin turbo.
At the speed I usually travel, I got 33 mpg with two people and luggage in the trunk.

Buy it, you won't regret it!

Why the concern? Just because Hyundai's 4 cylinder has more power then an American V6 shouldn't be a concern. The I4 is great because you have the power and the awesome fuel economy that you can't get with a V6. The Sonata turbo model has more power then most large V6 and some V8 cars on the market with insanely high gas mileage.

What are your concerns?
Most mid-sized cars in this class are 4 cylinders. It is the strongest 4 in the class if you are worried about power.

LOL as if Chevys don't have any problems http://www.allworldauto.com/comments/chevrolet_comments_and_complaints_8-1.html
Oh no, I guess it's gonna be a bunch thumbs down from the 'raven' guys for me and aj.

Never buy Korean cars. They are very bad quality and have many problems.

I wouldn't buy one and a four banger will take forever to pass anyone.

Buy a Chevy instead, it will last longer. Besides Sonata has has too many problems as seen here: http://www.allworldauto.com/comments/hyundai_sonata_comments_and_complaints_25-155-1.html
