Which no contract cell phone service is the best for my money?

It seems that every time I try to get a price for a cell phone, I'm told by the clerk that so and so is the cheapest. But after spending about an hour I find that the description of the product and the prices are so screwed up I am usually back to square one, just dumb as ever. If you go into a store to buy a candy bar, the clerk says that will be .50 cents, you leave and you know what you paid and what you got. But nothing like that happens when you go to buy a cell phone. Any help would be appreciated.

T-Mobile has a set of plans called Even More Plus. They are not contract plans, and you can add minutes, texts and data to the plan as you see fit. You are not required to buy a phone from T-Mobile. You can bring along any GSM-capable phone that uses the frequencies (which is pretty much most tri- or quad-band mobile devices).

If you wanted to use a data plan with 3G service, you would have to get a phone that's compatible with their 3G/UMTS/HSPA channels, so you'd have to get a phone made for T-Mobile. You can buy a phone from them (at full retail) or find one on eBay. There are a lot of options. You establish the account and that's it.

In order to get this, you have to go into a T-Mobile store or order the service on the phone. They no longer offer the service directly on their web site (which I think is a mistake, but there you are).
