is a hostel a good business?

I am looking at opening a hostel in  a city somewhere in canada.  I know Calgary only has one, and that there are a few for sale in BC...seems to me that if you work it yourself, and especially if you bought one that was already established (has current zoning, beds, payment systems, advertising, etc), and worked it yourself......it would make money.

Thoughts?
Where could I find stats on something like this?

umm in the UK we could probably get info like this from our local councils..but im not sure what the Candain equivilant of that is for you.

or perhaps u could ask around other hostel owners, im sure they have a few links up their sleeves.

Hostels are a great alternative for travelers who are looking for a place just to sleep.  You get what you pay for by giving up individual bathrooms and sleeping space.
