Resisting wrongful arrest?

This is pertaining to the UK. Recently, I was stopped by some guy I knew (I didn't particularly like him, he was a special brew waster.) in the street asking me for money. I refused and continued on my way, this guy then gets in my way physically stopping me with his hand and arm. So I punched him, knocking him over. A few days later, the police knock on my door to discuss this incident. I let them in and explain what happened, they caution me and say I may be charged with assault. That was the last I heard of it. As far as I can tell, from the legal stuff I can find online, this guy had performed a wrongful arrest (restraining me) to which I was entitled to resist with reasonable force, which I believe hitting him ONCE was reasonable. I know the law in this country often favors the antagonists, but what do you think my chances are?

Wrongful arrest only applies to police officers, not random people on the street.

You are entitled to resist an overt attack with reasonable force, but it's very easy to cross the line into "excessive" force. Knocking the guy over was probably excessive under the law- the fact that you believed it was reasonable doesn't mean it actually was.

Speak to a lawyer if charges are ever laid. Also you should find out what the statute of limitations is for assault in the UK (after which they can't press charges).

you could or you will possibly no longer. as a fashion to be triumphant in a case like this you may desire to teach incredibly 2 issues, which you have been wrongfully arrested and top maximum which you have been harmed in some way, bodily or monetarily. you will desire to remember that maximum police automobiles are geared up with sprint cams and the officers have audio recorders on their persons so in case you're no longer telling it promptly up they'll have the evidence to burn you. the main suitable element so which you would be able to do may be bypass to an criminal expert and inquire approximately it. numerous the time an preliminary interview is unfastened and in the event that they sense you have a solid case don't be taken aback in the event that they communicate with you an criminal expert that would not practice in many situations in that area. no one likes to debris to close to to their very own nest in case you recognize what I recommend. additionally, your loss of dignity isn't some thing you could sue for, in case you bypass to court docket and lose and could pay fines and value's, have lost wages, etc., then you incredibly have some thing yet a private injury or civil criminal expert is the main suitable one to furnish you appropriate perception.
