Once you're 18 can you voluntarily file an income tax return in Canada?

If you turn 18 mid-year you are not considered a dependant during that year at all, though you used to be. So...can you then file an income tax return even if your earnings are only in the hundreds of dollars? Cannot find that answer anywhere on the CRA website (which sucks). Thanks!

You can file a tax return any time you want. Age is immaterial.

It would actually be a good idea to file a return at your age, because you'll probably get some CPP (or QPP) back, and be eligible for GST credit when you turn 19.

Revenue Canada is not going to complain if you file a return. If you haven't actually PAID any taxes, don't plan on receiving a refund. If you send them a check, they will the THRILLED to keep it.

I do because of the fact in u . s . a ., in case you do not then the IRS will placed you in penitentiary like they did to Wesley Snipes. lots of the time, they're even keen to establish a fee plan in case you are able to not do it without warning (with effects), yet once you act such as you ain't gotta, you are able to desire to pass to penitentiary. i know they don't catch every physique, yet my butt is go out purely so there's no way i desire to danger going to penitentiary.
