Different External Hard Drive Models?

I have a small Western Digital external drive that I'm about to outgrow. I've been wondering what the difference is between the various models within a given mfrs. product. Other than The size of a drive what makes an Element different from a My Passport, etc,? I can't imagine if it's throughput speed, since they all have to flow thru a USB port.. What makes a 2 TB drive with a different model name different? Also is WD a very good name?

Westerndigital is one of the best!

- Now why HDDs cost more even if they have the same capacity and USB?
- Because the inner disk plate is different, some HDDs have 2.5" disk other 3.5", other have more speed rpm than others, other have better material, other have more features than others(e.g the WD offers the WD Smart Ware soft ware which is realy cool).
-Also the size of the hole disk (not the space 1TB,500GB etc) a portable costs more.Other are low power consumption.

in case you're able to have an exterior force, the best are certainly made by using Toshiba, who've made portables for years and don't use reject computing device hdd like seagate or perhaps the extra interior of your budget WD, examine the link under
