carpet stain, help walked in automotive grease?
My husband had grease from the shop on his shoes and walked on my beige carpet. Now I have small little strips of grease on the floor. What is the best way to remove it without killing my carpet

first off, i gotta say this: you are a brave woman having beige carpets and a mechanic in the same house! i avoid buying anything light colored for that very reason.
to remove the grease though: Dawn dish soap. it is great stuff! just take the Dawn, mix a tablespoon or so in you sink and add like 1/2 an inch of water. swish it around with your hand to get it super bubbly. take a damp sponge and scoop it through the bubbles. rub the bubbles into the stain really good getting more bubbles periodically. let them sit for about 20 minutes, get your carpet shampooer out if you have one, and use that to rinse the spot. if not, use a rag and warm water. you might have to do it a few times, but that has gotten grease out of my carpets on more than one occasion. Gojo works pretty good too, or fast orange, or whatever he scrubs up with at work, but the pumice is hard to get out of the carpet, so look for one with no grit. the Gojo works great on greasy work clothes though, with or without the grit. (with grit works great on denim.)

Remove Grease From Carpet

Your best bet, hands down, no question, is Genesis 950. It is an All Purpose Cleaner I originally bought in a garage where they used it to remove oils, grease and tar from their floors, uniforms, rags, and in cleaning engines. The product is designed to break down the bond of the stains.
I bought it because I had spilled midnight blue paint on a cream carpet. For 6 months I tried everything possible. No matter what I used, it would just smear the paint deeper into the carpet. 950 completely pulled it out with no damage to the carpet.
Since then I have been buying it online and use it twice a year in a rug doctor to give my carpets a professional feel. I use it to clean up after my pets. I cleaned an entire bottle of A1 Steak Sauce up with it after it shattered on my living room carpet and on my furniture. I basically use it for everything.
You can get it online at www.amerikalstore.com. It is without a doubt the best thing you can find for this. it is easy to use and causes no damage. Even if you use something else and it makes a bigger mess, 950 will clean that up.

Perhaps your husband has an aerosol can of Brake Cleaner in the garage.Spray some on to a white terry cloth towel and then gently rub the grease, it should transfer into the rag. This product has a slight odor to it, so do this cleaning when it is ideal to do so. Get the rag out of the house when you are finish to get rid of what odor you have control over. I used to use Trichlorethane III for this, it was un flammable, but now substitute aerosol brake cleaner. Do not use carbureator cleaner as this is to smelly. Charcoal Lighter fluid will also work as will WD40, the Brake Fluid Aerosol is faster. Do not allow any solvents to come in contact with the adhesive in the backing of the carpet.
