drinking and gambling in the Dominican?

I know the legal age to do both is 18 (correct me if I am wrong), so my question is when I go there this march break would I be allowed to do both? I am just concerned that because I am Canadian I wont be because the drinking and gambling ages here (Canada) are different. also if asked for ID will a drivers licence do? or should i just carry my passport around? So am I allowed to or not?

I stayed @ Sousa Dominican Republic about 2 years ago. I highly doubt you will be carded, and if so just give the bar tender a 5 and they will make you some strong drinks. I'm not sure about the gambling.

One important thing to remember is: you are in a different country. What ever country you come from those laws DO NOT APPLY. I mean sure if you murder someone, your in trouble anywhere. But as far as drinking/gambling.... as long as you are following the laws of that country. Canadian law doesn't mean anything...

And on another note... Its not really a good idea to carry your passport around with you. It is a valuable document, keep that in your hotel safe. If you do get carded, use your drivers license. You woln't need that @ customs. ... you loose your passport, your gonna have problems.

Also, the dominican rep. is a poor country, don't walk around with all your $ in your pocket, only take what you need. when i was there everyone was trying to sell me everything, including some personal favors..... just be smart, don't let the alcohol cloud your judgment. I went outside the resort several times... if you feel like getting hammered drunk.. do it on the resort so your safe when you pass out under a palm tree... Have fun & enjoy your trip.

here is a link to the US travel guide information. Some good tips and info, but don't let it frighten you. Just be safe and smart. The dominican was a blast for me.
