my brand new sony vaio laptop keeps freezing and i have no idea why?

its not even two weeks ive had it, and for some reason every so often, it completely freezes up. i cant even start a task manager or shut down. i have a virus scan running, it came activated on the computer, and the hard drive is no where near full, so im at a complete loss as to why this might be. i have had to resort numerous times to simply removing the battery and re-starting it, which i know is terrible for the computer, but there seems to be know other way of unfreezing the stupid thing. im beginning to get throughly pissed, and am desperately hoping someone out there knows what might be wrong and how to fix it.
many thanks.

My asus eeebox also lacks a powerswitch or resetbutton. So when it freezes i need to pull the powercord, not very handy. Of course still better then having to remove a laptop-battery, but it's only annoying, it shouldn't harm the laptop.

Computers can freeze sometimes due to software conflicts or lack of resources. a few things u might try:
- install more memory
- use a utility like "the ultimate troubleshooter" to deactivate unneeded processes:

- reinstall windows

But there also may be a hardware problem, so since it's brandnew look at your warranty options.

Warranty, no need to fix it ,contact sony about it and see if there is a repair shop in the area that they deal with that covers the warranty to repair it ,could be a manufacture defect, try not have it sent back to them takes to long to get it back.

this kind of problems happen usually after months or years of using but it's weird that you bought it 2 weeks ago and its already happening, I can't help you I have to see it my self to fix these kind of problems, my only advice Is take it back to the store you bought it from and let them fix it!

P.S
download the "windows cleanUp!" as a last hope b4 you take it

Send it back to the store you bought it and have it replaced or repaired
