I mean really finisgh digesting, all the way until he poops the food.
I am asking because I have a puppy who is 9 months now, so he has no problem waiting to poop, but sometimes he poops inside if he really wants to go, so I thought if I feed him exactly x hours before he goes out (x being the hours till he digests) he won't have a problem, as he won't have poop.

Take him out 15 minutes after eating. At 9 months he should be able to go longer, but you have to figure out his "schedule". Mine is 7 months. He is fed 2 times a day, took him out 15 minutes after eating....then every 2 hours till I figured out he goes in the morning before he eats and 2 hours after his dinner. Good Luck
Digestion (food) in the dog normally takes 4 hours. However, when you are talking about a reaction time, to a poison, it depends on the poison - it could be almost instant, or take longer (ie the effects of eating rat poison won't be seen for some time). I'd phone the emergency number for your vet, with the name of what he got into. Better to be safe, than sorry. ps Don't give him anything without being advised by a professional - you could do more harm than good.
each dog is different..but if you want to find out how long it takes for your dog...put in a few slivers of carrots in his food. After he eats them, "time" how long it takes for you to see it in his stool since carrots usually come out about the same as they went in..
