i have a sony lap top, that will not boot up, it makes a whirring sound when you turn it on for a bout 1 second and that is all it does it never comes on or changes is it trash or is it something that is locked and can be fixed

If it was already an old machine, too slow for today's programs, I'd trash it. What you describe is most likely a hardware problem and would require the whole thing taken apart and possibly having parts replaced. If you have to pay someone to do this, it would probably cost more than the machine would be worth once it's fixed.

I am thinking something may have been damaged in it. Or perhaps it's dust (if it's an older model). I hope that it's still under warranty.
