It's set at full cold but barely keeps ice cream from melting. Neither it nor the fridge compartment are over packed, it's a frost free model. Is there anything I can check, or do I just call an appliance guy?

The door seal is good, that I checked.

Check the condensing fan make sure it's running when the compressor is. Second clean the condensing coil. On standard units the fan will be under the unit. On units like sub-zero it'll be on top.
It may need freon. A repairman can tell what is wrong, and whether it is worth fixing, or if you should just buy a new one. Our local appliance repairman charges $45 to make a house call and diagnose the problem, or $45 labor if he can fix it. Do get it fixed or replaced. The food you are keeping in there is not safely frozen!
