I saw this name of an adoption agency?

in answer to another question someone included this..... handpickedfruitadoption.com. I checked it out..it is an adoption agency. Do you think this is an appropriate name for an adoption agency? Do you think that surrendered newborns/children are akin to *hand-picked fruit*? I personally think the name of this adoption agency is offensive (moreso than many others). Is this like going to an apple orchard, a strawberry field..where one 'hand-picks" their own "fruit"? What about "handpickedvegetablesadoption.com? A cabbage-patch maybe?
Just wanting to know what you think about the name of this particular adoption agency.

Doesn't surprise me. You need to be cold-blooded and good at marketing to set up an adoption agency.

Thanks Pip, for the URL. I just visited that site and I just L-O-V-E the "non-refundable application fee of $175"

The rest is all about money. I don't I love the "add to cart" buttons. Wow! adoption is really about love!

You have no lawsuit here. Lawsuits are filed because someone suffered damages. You didn't suffer any damages, in fact you are happy that your bio Mom found you. Your parents haven't suffered any damages, they are OK if you have contact with bio mom. Move on, it was a gross error on the part of the agency, but stuff happens and you are happy, healthy and well adjusted. Your $$$'s are way off. Right now, a regular bank savings account is paying .1%, yes less than 1 percent per year. Long term CD's are paying about 1.2%. No one is paying 4,.55% or 6%. You have no way of knowing what your parents would have done with the money if they did not adopt you. They could have bought a house or a couple of cars. You have no proof that they would have saved it to earn interest. Get on with your life, hug everyone and be happy.

Interesting that they decided that name would be beneficial to their business, or that it would help them succeed, or even that they thought that it would be acceptable. I cannot imagine that they deal in anything other than infant adoptions, likely domestic as much as possible. That is, after all, the ultimate fruit and the first choice majority of PAPs on the lookout.

From a marketing standpoint, it is a good name, clearly conveying their message that they will be the place that will get the Prospective Adopters their heart's desire.,,,a healthy newborn, handpicked from a myriad of other possible choices.

From a taste/ethics/conscience standpoint, not so much! It does, however, clearly show the fact that marketing is a very important part of the adoption process, and things like language, strategy and selling are an important and even integral part of adoption today.

Thanks for posting this question, Gypsy. It is good to have the opportunity to point out the fact that the packaging of a product is as important in selling adoption as it is in selling a Ford a candy bar, a Big Mac or any other product to consumers.

Seriously repulsive.

Oh also, read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page. Found that extra special.

I also made the decision to send a little message about how I felt about the owner coming on her and harassing young women.

UGH. I responded to the "contact us" on the page stating that as a former "fruit" I found the site quite offensive.
