How does our society view marriage and roles of husbands/wives?

Question

I'm just doing a little survey out of curiosity. You can answer A) How YOU personally view marriage and the roles of husband/wife (or I guess even wife/wife husband/husband if you agree with same-sex marriage!) or B) How you think the majority of Americans view marriage and the roles within it. 

It can be as short or as detailed as you like. It would be nice if you note how you're answering as well (A or B or if they are both the same say "C")

My experience is that most people still view marriage in a 1950's sitcom way. The man is the leader of the house and does the heavy lifting/ fixing, women do most of the cooking, etc. The exception is that women work outside the house also, as a second income is needed in most households today.
