why do people think that hollow piercing needles remove skin?

seriously. I'm trying to understand the logic on this.

jamie...there are two methods for inserting microdermals that I know of. one involves using a piercing needle and the other uses a dermal punch, which does remove skin. not sure which one the piercer you went to used.

@superman....I will use this as an example of NOT TAKING CHUNKS OUT OF SKIN...
this is from after one of my suspensions. sure it looks like big gaping holes, but NO SKIN WAS REMOVED...it was just a 6 gauge hollow needle followed by 6 gauge hooks.

Nein: depending on the gauge, hollow needles can push out fatty tissue...that is what the white is around my hooks:

denise, if you're talking about the procedure for a needle aspiration biopsy, it isn't the same thing. that removes particles of tissue, not a massive chunk of flesh.

they just don't know any better. i thought the same thing when i started piercing. common knowledge isn't always the truth, is it. i think that's how the term 'gauging' came about. ppl didn't know what to call it, but they knew it was a 6 gauge, so it must be a gauge. and now it is. ya, it's different. wtvr. lol

Bc there's a hole in the middle so they probably think the hole removes the skin like a dermal punch. And I think they can use a hollow needle to remove skin I got a microdermal done w a needle and I thought it removed some of my skin but I could be wrong

Probably because they are not piercing needles.


EDIT: The gauge used for a core biopsy is 11-16 and yes they do remove tissue.

A needle aspiration biopsy does not remove tissue at all. Needle core biopsies do.
I know of no needle that removes chucks of tissue.
